By uncovering the river in the heart of Yonkers, this project would help give a major boost to revitalization of the downtown and waterfront areas for generations to come.  A tremendous win-win for the environment and the economy of Yonkers, Westchester County, and the Hudson River Valley, the project will be a lasting legacy of the Saw Mill River’s role as the industrial centerpiece of the city’s founding during the Dutch colonial period.

At a time when the economy is beginning to recover and the real estate market is turning, progress on the daylighting could act as a catalyst while at the same time enhancing public amenities in the city.  This new park at Larkin Plaza will make downtown Yonkers a more walkable and pedestrian-friendly city.

With environmental permitting and design at advanced stages, the project is virtually “shovel-ready.”  Please work to bring this project to fruition.

I am convinced it would strengthen the city’s role as a leading 21st century city, a magnet for residential and commercial development with a great quality of life.
