Who We Are

The Friends of the Saw Mill River began as an informal group of business people, civic and environmental organizations, community groups, and residents of Yonkers.  The group gathered stakeholders who owned businesses and properties downtown and were concerned about thoughtful development.

Mayor Amicone’s team was well along in their daylighting plans, and the group enthusiastically supports the work of Jim Pinto’s Office of Downtown & Waterfront Development and Lou Kirven’s Department of Planning and Development.  The City, especially through the work of Deputy Commissioner Sharon Ebert, has been tireless applying for grants, and seeking external funding to beautify our downtown.

Our group is in favor of “more trees and more water” in downtown Yonkers.  We support a park, where children can wander, groups can gather, and the city can embrace its historic and natural connection to the Hudson river ecosystem.

We are currently working collaboratively and in a focused way to compel decision-makers to help fund this important project – and keep it moving quickly and in the right direction.

We hope you will join our efforts
